With conference play underway, the men's and women's soccer teams are off to a stellar start, both currently on a five game The men are currently 7-6-1 and 5-0 in the KCAC.
Led by the stellar play of Jose Garay and Robert Carillo, the Coyotes have cruised to five straight victories against Sterling, Bethel, McPherson, Friends and St. Mary's scoring 26 goals and allowing one.
Their recent success has put the men on top of the KCAC conference and has brought publicity to several of the players. Robert Carillo was named the KCAC Defensive player of the week twice for his performances in goal against Oklahoma Christian University Arturo Guizar was named the KCAC Offensive player of the week for week three, and Jose Garay earned the honors for week four.
Garay, who is a returning all-conference player, has been on a tear since the Coyotes began their winning streak, scoring nine goals and adding several assists over the last three games. Garay also leads the KCAC in assists with six.
Not only has the offensive side of the ball been superb for the Coyotes, the defense has been spectacular as of late.
Led by goalkeeper Carillo, the men have accumulated 43 goals this season, giving them a 2-1 goals to goals against ratio. Carillo ranks at the top of the KCAC for goals against with 1.31 and has been a big reason in this team's success.
The women's team has also been on a tear lately, winning their last five games and currently sitting at 8-5-1 and tied for the lead in the KCAC with the Ottawa Braves.
Led by the superb play of Heather Muilenburg, the women found easy victories against Sterling and Bethel, before going to overtime against McPherson. Muilenburg scored both the regulation and overtime goals.
The women, who were struggling offensively towards the beginning of the year, managed to score 28 goals in their last five games and rip off an impressive 77 shots against opposing goalkeepers.
The road ahead is no walk in the park; however, the women will face Ottawa University, who leads the KCAC in goals and is tied for first in the conference, and then play cross-town rival Bethany, a team who sits at 8-3-1 for the season.
Both the men and women are away at Bethany Saturday, and play at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. respectively.
