The Wickerman
Priscilla: I was excited when this came to the movies, but I ended up pretty disappointed. I'm sure this was probably a "good movie" as far as the plot was concerned--it had twists, suspense, and mystery--but the ending ruined it for me. Nicholas Cage was amazing in his role, but wow, this was one freaky movie. It was a fascinating film, but I left baffled and unsatisfied.
Aaron: Yeah, I'm going to have to say that I don't have any locked up love or joy for this one. I really left the movie with the same idea as my wife, "Why in Poseidon's name did we come to this movie?" It was suspenseful and all, but there's just no closure at all for those who watch it. The constant circle of events will just keep repeating itself. Grrrrr….
Cranked
Aaron: By Apollo's birthright, this was the worst movie I think I've seen in a long time, which I'm happy for because those of you who are following our reviews know that it is rare for us to put a thumbs down on anything. This review, however, is filled with them. This movie is one that should be full of adrenaline rushes and all of that since that's what it's based upon: having to stay moving or you die. Well, I found myself falling asleep during it if that tells you how upbeat and full of adrenaline it was. Wow, baaaaad movie!!! I don't advise wasting any of your time or money on it.
Priscilla: This was by far the worst movie I have ever seen. When you go to a movie, you're supposed to root for the hero, right? The character wasn't even likable! The plot was that he was trying to avoid death because of the crazy injection thing he was given, but I kept saying to my husband and myself: "Die already so I can go home!" It was gory and gross and not entertaining at all. Napoleon Dynamite's Pedro had an interesting role, but his appearance still didn't make up for this total failure of a film.
The Black Dahlia
Priscilla: I enjoyed this movie for its story and characters, but I think it could have been made better. There were several rises in the story line, but no huge climax. The film was artfully done-it was introduced in a film noir style and the filmography was wonderful. The acting was well-done, too, especially as far as Hilary Swank and Scarlet Johansson were concerned. This wasn't a movie I would buy on DVD, but I think I'd still recommend it. Another bonus-I was expecting a lot of sickening violence with it being directed by the same person who made Scarface-Aaron only had to cover my eyes once.
Aaron: I wasn't sold on this one. Yeah, the person who put together Scarface may have directed this one as well, but the twists were way too easy to catch. The actors did an amazing job, but that didn't completely cover up how long you had to wait for much of anything to happen. It was ok though, and I wouldn't really completely put a thumb down on this one-sort of a thumb in the middle. I would maybe give the recommendation for this one as a movie rental, but not necessarily a must buy.
