Jolene Mick continued to dominate the conference, earning the 2006 individual conference champion title, despite getting lost on the course and running a little extra then the rest of the runners. Mick made a wrong turn between the mile and two-mile marks, and came back to the back in 13th position, and bolted out back into the lead by the two-mile mark. Mick, Sarah Williams and Nicole Heptig were named All-KCAC as Williams and Heptig placed third and seventh, respectively. Ashley Toews placed 14th earning Honorable Mention All-KCAC honors. Other finishers for the women were Yeleny Torres in 18th, Nicole Nacastro in 20th, Kara Walker in 25th and Sarah Knorp 36th.
"I am extremely proud of the ladies and they have had a great season so far," Head Coach Zach Kindler said. "We look to do even more at regionals and nationals.
Kindler was voted by the conference coaches as the KCAC Women's Coach of the Year!
The men were able to pull down a sixth place finish. Tyler Jensen was the top runner this week running 28:58, placing 11th. Mark Winkel was only two spots behind him placing 13th. Both Jensen and Winkel were named Honorable Mention All-KCAC. Rounding out the top five were Gabe Russell placing 31st, Seth Schooley in 38th and Leo Alvarado in his first meet this year placed 39th. Paul Minneman was not able to run due to a sickness right at race time.
"Overall we had a great meet and I am very proud of all the runners," Kindler said. "They have had a great year so far and have made it a very exciting season."
The Coyotes run again this weekend at the NAIA Region IV Championships held in Winfield on Saturday, beginning at 10:30 AM.
