Saxophonist scheduled for Sunday

Grammy-nominated saxophonist, composer, producer and educator Bobby Watson will be featured with the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance Jazz Quartet during the next performance in the Family Concert Series. The series is sponsored by University United Methodist Church and Kansas Wesleyan University.


The performance is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. November 19 in University United Methodist Church, and is open to the public at no charge. Donations to help defray the cost of the concert series will be accepted. A "meet the artists" reception will follow the concert.


Joining Watson in the quartet will be Michael Pagán, Michael Warren, and Ben Liefer. Following is additional information about each artist.


Bobby Watson - Watson serves as Director of Jazz Studies at the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance. During his career, he has worked with such notable artists as Max Roach, Louis Hayes, George Coleman, Sam Rivers, and Wynton and Branford Marsalis, as well as vocalists Joe Williams, Dianne Reeves, Lou Rawls, Betty Carter, and Carmen Lundy. Watson wrote original music for the soundtrack of Robert DeNiro's directorial debut, "A Bronx Tale." More than 100 of his compositions have been recorded.
