For the second time in consecutive years, the Lady Coyotes made it to regional playoffs showing the high degree of success by the rejuvenated program.
Mike Dibbini became the Head Coach at Kansas Wesleyan University in January 2005. In his first season, Dibbini returned the Coyote soccer programs to their previous glory, capturing the 2005 Men's KCAC Regular Season and Post-Season Tournament Championships, and led the women to their first ever KCAC Post-Season Tournament Championship with a 15-3-2 overall record. This year, however, hopes and anticipation for a successful season were high, and the Lady Coyotes were determined more than ever to continue where they left off last season.
After a 1-3 loss against Master's College in Santa Clarita (California), the Lady Coyotes rolled, winning the last 14 of their 16 regular season games, only to lose to Morningside College in Iowa and tying a game with Newman University, a division II school from Wichita, at one goal apiece. The Lady Coyotes beat Friends University in the KCAC post-season semifinals by the score of 3-0 to the make it to the finals. "The final game was a battle, and Saint Mary is a good team", said head coach Dibini. It would have gone either way, but luck was on the Coyotes' side as they won the game 5-4 on penalty shootout.
The Coyotes won convincingly in their first game against Saint Mary's by the score of 5-0. The second round was tough as they were facing the 20th ranked team in the nation Bellevue University. The Coyotes played their best game of the season, upsetting Bellevue 5-1 only to lose in the Regional Final to the 25th ranked team in the nation, the Park University Pirates, who then went on to represent Region IV in the women's national tournament. "It was a season of hope," Dibini said. The Lady Coyotes finished with a record of 18-3-1, 9-0 in the KCAC, wining the 2006 KCAC Regular Season Championship, 2006 KCAC Post-Season Tournament Championship, and being a
2006 NAIA Region IV Finalist. Among the many accomplishments, the Coyotes recorded a team record high 15 shutouts with Kelly Balch and Ashley Trinidad on goal; they were led in scoring by Freshmen Heather Muilenburg and Junior Juliet Cervantes. Five women were named to the all-conference selection team, four made the regional selection team. Five seniors are graduating in May.
