To those who are from the Midwest or East Coast, this is nothing unusual, but to the new students who are from the West Coast or South, it is something new.
The snow and ice storms that hit on consecutive weekends left many students cold. With cars covered and also stuck in the frigid ice, just moving the car has been an event of the day. It was not unusual to see cars fighting to get out of the slippery ice and actually being pushed by other students.
For California native Delray Yarbrough the snow has forced him to dress extra warm, sometimes wearing two jackets. He said, "It makes me feel like its Christmas". With ice cluttered side walks just walking to class has been difficult and challenging. The fear of falling is constantly in the back of your mind.
The Kansas Wesleyan ground s crew worked furiously trying to clear paths for students to safely walk on. But for transfer student Mark Robinson who is also a native of California walking on ice is terrifying. He states "I'm a pretty big guy so I have to watch my every step and my speed because one slip and I could bruise my tailbone or even break it". For most student seeing the sun Is a sign of warmer days to come. But with snow storms forecasted to hit later in the week that hope is fading fast.
Here are a couple of tips if you have a car. Invest in a scraper with a brush. also make sure you change your windshield wiper fluid to the anti freeze mixture. Make sure to dress warm with something always on your head to help keep you healthy and cold free. Some tips on walking on ice stay flat footed and don't try and walk to fast or that's your. And if you do happen to see someone fall help them up before laughing. All in all be safe and watch your step and don't be afraid to start a snow ball fight it might be fun.
