With the first game of the season just around the corner, Kansas Wesleyan University baseball team prepares for a season of hard work and victory. Their first game is February 6th, in Oklahoma, at Southern Nazarene University.
Due to snowy weather, the coyotes have been practicing every weeknight, in Muir Gymnasium, from 10 p.m. to about 12 a.m. Although it is different practicing indoors instead of outdoor, they are preparing both mentally and physically to be stronger as a team than the past few years.
Guy McGriff was asked, "Who are the main players or captains who will lead this team to victory?" He replied, "With a good mix of returning players, junior transfers, and incoming freshman, every player will contribute to the success of the team." He continued, "There is no one player that is more important than the next."
The Coyotes are looking to put this season in a complete opposite swing than last season. In 2006, KWU's overall record was 17 wins and 33 losses, while having a conference record of 7 wins and 17 losses. They look to compete at a higher level and advance to the playoffs at the end of the year.
For the first month of the season, the Coyotes will not have a home game. Their first home game is March 1st against Baker University. And the Coyotes first conference game is against Friends University on March 5th. "We are hoping to start the season off strong, continue to compete at a high level and be victorious," said McGriff.
The KWU Coyotes Baseball team needs support from fans in addition to their talent and hard work, to ensure victory. On February 6th, the adventure to victory begins in Oklahoma.
