Coach Tommy DeSalme can only describe the season so far as "incredible." With Monday night's spectacular shot sealing the KCAC championship, only one goal remains win the national championship. With a unforgetable first year in which he was awarded the KCAC Coach of the Year, DeSalme believes the "Yotes will get as high as a fifth seed" in the tournament. DeSalme states "I am very proud of the team and how hard they have worked to get here"; He also added "Since day one they have bought into the winning concept." He also believes the play of his seniors "will set them apart from the rest". Senior Jeff Baron said, "We came into the season with high expectations and it all worked out perfectly." Sophomore Trey Sims states "we are having a great season;" and when asked about the big shot, he said, "I was in the right place at the right time;" he also adds "It's just wild how it all fell into place at the end." With the tournament approaching fast DeSalme wants the team to "rest," but "not get satisfied with what they accomplished." Sims believes "If we play up to our ability we can go far." Junior Tony Boone states, "We must stay focused during the tournament for us to be successful." Baron states, "The sky is the limit."
With a conference record of 17-1 and a tournament record of 3-0 there's good reason why the All KCAC teams are full of purple and gold. Anthony Smith, Marcus Faubion, Sims and Baron were selected First Team All KCAC. Faubion also collected the title of KCAC Player of the Year. Faubion along with Boone made the KCAC Defensive Team. Josh Berry was selected to Honorable Mention All-KCAC. And freshman Henry Rodgers was selected to the KCAC All Freshman team.
