With school still in session and gas prices rising, many loyal students and fans weren't able to travel to Branson, Missouri to support the Coyotes Men's basketball team in the National Tournament. But thanks to the school's deans the games were brought to us via the internet and broadcast live in Muir Gym.
Lauren Chatman, a student at Kansas Wesleyan stated "I wanted to go but class is more important". With an average attendance of 85 people Muir gym was full of life Wednesday and Friday night.
students and just regular fans were on hand to view the coyotes march to the championship. Mike Jones, a long time Coyote fan stated, "I had to come see them play. They have been having an awesome year."
The Coyotes made the first round look easy as they convincingly beat Blufield. With an easy first round win many fans felt that Kansas Wesleyan would definitely be playing for the national title. Keller Parks, a KWU student states, "I think they can go all the way". But everything that's good must come to an end. In the second round the Coyotes would meet their match. Although down by only one at the half the Coyotes couldn't overcome Northwestern's second half surge as they lost by 20. Senior Anthony Smith had 22 in the tough loss. This year's team has set the bar high for next year. Troy Terry, a Kansas Wesleyan student, said, "It was exciting the whole year watching them play; he also added "I can't wait to see what they'll do next year. With a lot of young talent and Coach DeSalme leading the pack the future is bright for Kansas Wesleyan.
