Kansas Wesleyan University is planning to renovate a new and exciting stadium field completed with turf. The university's personnel is planning and hoping to have this project finished within the next few years.
"I think having turf as our new field will be a great addition to the soccer program," stated KWU women's soccer player Angela Padilla. Many athletes attending KWU, like Padilla, agree that the new turf will attract more athletes to the university.
Athletes highly support having turf for many reasons. One of the reasons is because turf will reduce the risk of injuries. Not only will the soccer team benefit from this, but also the football team, track team, marching band, dance team, and out of season sports will get good use of the turf. Another reason athletes want turf is because it can be used in all weather conditions. As of right now, there is limited practice time on the playing field. Due to unexpected weather conditions and overuse, the field is being destroyed tremendously. Turf is known to provide the best surface for outdoor athletic competitions. "I think the turf will benefit all the teams on campus because there will be no limit for practice time on the field and it won't be run down," said a KWU football player
Not only are the athletes hoping for this new addition, but the KWU administration is excited about it too. They feel the installation of the synthetic grass turf will require hardly any maintenance by KWU's staff. Even though it looks, feels, and plays like real grass, the up-keep of the field is very low compared to a regular grass field.
The word of mouth around the KWU campus is that the finished turf will be purple. This unique idea is a great way to promote the university's character and athletic pride. If this design follows through as planned, KWU will be one of the very few schools to sport a purple turf.
One of KWU's intentions of the new turf field is to develop an eye-catching effect. "It's kind of cool if the plans follow through because not many universities will have anything like it!" stated football player Matthew Case.
