Construction on the new building began early last fall. The building was originally scheduled to be opened by the beginning of the spring 2008 semester, but due to weather conditions throughout the spring and summer months, progress has been set back.
Heather Smith, the dean of student life at Kansas Wesleyan, commented on the construction process. "I think [the building] is coming right along and the students are really excited to see how far along it has come over the summer," Smith said.
In addition to the student life office, the athletic department could not be more ready for the new building to open its doors for the first time. "It's beautiful!" says KWU Athletic director Dr. Matthew Williams. "Once the building is done, everyone will have a place to meet, instead of being all over campus. All of the coaches, faculty and students will all be under one building," Williams said. Also, parking availability is expected to increase.
"The process is coming along well, despite being two months be¬hind schedule due to the bad weather," Kerstetter stated. He then added, "This will become a great resource to the KWU campus. It will be a place where students, staff and faculty can congregate and have a place to hang out."
Kerstetter, as well as the rest of the KWU community, expects completion of the new student life building to be aimed for mid to late spring semester of 2008 and is looking forward to the opening day of the new building.
