After being chosen to finish second in the KCAC by opposing coaches in the conference, the KWU Coyote football team is preparing to show better in the standings than they have been predicted to finish. They will get the chance at home against Bethel on Sept. 8 at Salina Stadium for their opening game.

In the past two seasons, the men have finished with a record of 8-2 in conference play. This year, they are ready to improve on their winning percentage and bring home the championship.

"We have a lot of transfers that are going to make a big impact," said senior captain and middle linebacker Colten Campbell. "Our back seven is looking really good too."
Offensively, the weapons for KWU this year are going to be in the hands of two quarterbacks battling for a starting position. Drew Dallas and Brad Manning are in competition for that position.

Also getting some playing time are the eight returning players on the offensive line. These players bring starter potential and experience to the line. Players to look for include Preston McCorkle, Jason Dolan, Steven Valliere, Ryan Walker and Dustin Pugh.

The new and returning offensive players who show promise include juniors Marcus Lowe, Michael Donald and First Team All-KCAC sophomore Bryan Cooper.

On the defensive side of the ball, returners Andrew Stroud, First Team All-KCAC senior captain Colten Campbell, junior Matt Case, transfer Ryan Dolan, First Team All-KCAC Willie Johnson, and senior Scott Moore will be part of the anchors on the D-line.

"I believe we're going to be just fine …. people will have to step up in their positions," said senior defensive end Scott Moore.

The season will be an exciting one, and the big games to look for are "Down between us [KWU], Friends, Sterling and Bethel," said Campbell.
