With the 2007 season under way, the Lady Coyotes have started with a bang, holding a 5 wins and 1 loss record in non-conference, pre-season play.
The Lady Coyotes have, for the most part, dominated their competition in every aspect of the game. KWU has only given up three goals in their first six games, which means as a team, their defensive play is incredible. On the other end of the field, the Coyotes have managed to put away 22 goals in that six game span. The all around play of KWU is the play needed to take them to the next level.
With only three returning starters, a strong core of transfers, and some pre-season injuries, the coyotes have really needed to come together as a unit. Junior transfer and defender Marisa Brownell says, "It's a long road to victory, but over time our team will come together and we will accomplish our goals. We have a strong group of girls and we will click at the time needed."
The Lady Coyotes have gone up against some very prestigious teams. In the first week of play, the Coyotes demolished Concordia University (Nebraska) with a score of 5-0. In that same week, they faced a more difficult and skilled team from Baker University and put up a win of 1-0. In this past week of soccer, they also took out the highly prestigious school of Oklahoma Christian University with one goal from Heather Muilenburg early in the first half. Their other wins have been over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Texas) and Briar Cliff University (Iowa) with their loss coming from Morningside College (Iowa).
The Lady Coyotes continue their season this weekend against Avila University at home to finish off pre-season play. Next Tuesday is the first game of conference play versus Southwestern College and will be at KWU. From there, the Coyotes will do what they can to take over the KCAC for the third year in a row.
