On Wednesday, the Coyotes posted their third shutout of the season under head coach Mike Dibbini at Martin Stadium in the first KCAC game of the season.
Right-side defender Rashaun Thompson scored midway through the second half to give the Coyotes a 4-0 lead. Blake Schwartz assisted Thompson on the give-and-go play as Thompson sliced the ball on target and over Southwestern's Blaine Bowers from near the outside of the 18-yard box.
"The boys are coming well together [sic]; they have accepted their roles on the field," stated Dibbini after his team's win. "The players on the bench are coming in and understand what to do in order to be productive, successful and get the win."
"The team is finally starting to work as one," senior midfielder Eric Garcia stated. "We have a common goal and are working hard to achieve it as a single unit."
Jose Garay scored within the first five minutes of the start of the game off an excellent individual effort. Forward transfer from Mt. Sac Mario Rodriguez added to the lead just minutes later. Freshman Brandon Rumore rounded the scoring at 3-0 to give the Coyotes a comfortable lead at the half.
In the second half, Schwartz found the net for himself off of a through-ball from Miguel Wenceslao at approximately ten minutes in.
"The boys have a lot potential and are beginning to realize that," Dibbini said. "[They] have an excellent shot to be the best and that serves for a great outlook on the upcoming conference games."
The Coyotes have their final preseason match against Region IV rival Bellevue at home at Martin Stadium on Saturday the 22nd at 7pm.
