During the off-season, KWU named Brent Mooney as the new coach, succeeding former coach Donnie Jackson. While Mooney is new to the coaching scene, he is well familiar with Kansas Wesleyan, having played for the tennis team in the 2003 and 2004 seasons. During his two years on the team he was named to the First Team All-KCAC in both seasons.
"I've been playing for many years," said Mooney. "I bring my experience to this team and that will be a key in shaping these players."
So what can we expect of this years tennis team? "I anticipate that we will compete well," said Mooney. "We're going to go out there and fight hard and as a team I believe we are in pretty good sh
ape."
With Mooney being a former player for Kansas Wesleyan, his coaching philosophy has already seemed to have rubbed off on his current players. When asked what his individual goals for the season were, senior Brad Vanover had this to say. "I just want to do better than last year," said Vanover. "All I can do is go out there and hope to improve on every match I play in."
For the fall season, the Coyotes will have nine players on the team with more players expected during the spring. "We should have about 14 players come spring time," said Mooney. "We have a few transfer students coming over that will be eligible to play come the spring."
