The Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes
concluded their preseason
run by tying regional
powerhouse Bellevue (Neb.) 3-3 in a nail-biting double overtime match last Saturday in Martin Stadium.

"The game slipped away from us, but it will help us mature for the next game," stated Assistant Coach Miguel Ruiz "We now know we can compete with any team in the region."
KWU out-shot the visiting Bruins (4-3-2) overall in the game 23-15. Most of the shots came from forward Mario Rodriguez and a frenzied midfield led by Miguel Wenceslao, but a persistent Bellevue team struck first with a goal that slipped past KWU keeper Ben Fetherston who had four saves on the night.

Daynon Kirby would have the answer moments later with a strike that trickled past Bellevue's Sebastian
Narvaez. Minutes later, freshman
Blake Schwartz sent a shot that was blocked and picked up by Mario Rodriguez to fire it home and give the Coyotes a 2-1 lead early in the first half.

Rodriguez then again produced another goal from hard work and the Coyotes were up 3-1 with just about twenty minuets left in the match. Then things got interesting.

A corner kick from Bellevue would find the head of Tom Dobbs and put away the second goal of the night for the Bruins. With ten minutes remaining a striker from Bellevue found the net again and tied it 3-3 ending the game and sending it into overtime.
Although KWU had several opportunities,
they could not capitalize and ended the game winless.

"It was unfortunate that we had to go into overtime, but as fatigued as we were, we still managed to get some opportunities" senior starter Eric Garcia stated, "we just couldn't finish them."

The men's team overall record now stands at 5-3-1, while their KCAC Conference record is at 1-0. Earlier in the season the men were voted to win the KCAC Conference. The men hope to replicate last year's successful run in the regional tournament and hopefully make a national tournament berth.

Their next meeting is a KCAC Conference game and is scheduled tomorrow against Sterling in Martin Stadium at 1pm.
