a strong recruiting and freshman class add up to give the Women's Basketball team a fighting chance at a KCAC Championship this year.
"I transferred with the hopes of helping out an already good program,"
stated Junior Robin Smith. "The girls have all been really welcoming,
and I think that we will work well together come season."
The women have been rigorously training to get an edge on the competition.
Their conditioning has included agility sessions, repetitive drills and weight lifting. Most of the women have been doing running on their own and are usually around campus at all hours of the day conditioning to gain more fitness.
Lately, inter squad scrimmages have been the dominant theme in practices as they are still in the early stages of preseason. However, there are glimpses of brilliant passing and playmaking already amongst the players. The obvious chemistry is starting to brew.
"Preseason is going well," mentioned
Emily Luckeroth "The team is already starting to have chemistry on the court and show signs of promise for the upcoming season."
More recently, the basketball team held their very own "Coyote Free-Throw-A-Thon" on September 15, 2007. The women had loved ones and other possible donors give a pledge in cents for the amount of free throws they could make out of 1,000. The event was used to raise money for the program and was a huge success.
Sophomore Julie Foster took the honors of first place with a 94% converted
average on 1,000 free throws. This impressive mark was nearly double as returner Kaylaen Dittmer held her own with 92% from the foul line.
Coach Reimer was unavailable for comment on the amount of money raised and for the prospects of the team's future.
Most of the atmosphere seemed positive and the women are building character, chemistry and confidence in each other as the preseason practices
continue.
The Lady Coyotes get their first taste of preseason action when they travel to Atchison for the Benedictine Classic on Friday, November 2 to face Benedictine College (Kan.) at 7:30PM.
