Debate and forensics takes sweeps

The past weekend, September 28-30, the KWU debate and forensics team traveled to Sterling College to participate in "Debates on a Plain" swing tournament hosted by Barton County Community College and Sterling College. The team placed 1st in overall sweepstakes and 1st in day one of the tournament swing and second day two.

All individual competitors on the team broke into finals. Steve Johnston and Noah Shook won the parliamentary debate tournament. Johnston also received 4th place overall speaker points. Eric Arganbright and John Mikolajcik both broke into quarter finals placing 3rd. Justin Morse broke into quarter finals of IPDA public debate and placed 4th and was awarded High Point Novis. The debate team as a whole placed 1st in the school debate competition.

In the Saturday portion of the forensics competition, students were also successful.
Noah Shook broke into finals in all of his events which included 4th place in Poetry, 4th place in Impromptu speaking, 3rd place Communication analysis, and 2nd place Extemporaneous speaking.

Steve Johnston also broke into many of his final events including 1st place after Diner speaking, 2nd place Impromptu speaking, 2nd place Communication analysis and 3rd place Extemporaneous speaking. Molly Suter placed third with her Persuasive speech.
John Mikolajcik also broke into finals and placed 3rd in After Diner speaking, 5th in Informative speaking and 5th in Extemporaneous speaking.

Jeriah Forbes received 4th place with his Informative speech and 6th with his communications analysis.

Amanda Little received second place for her Poetry piece and Eric Arganbright placed 5th with his communications analysis. Eric Arganbright and Noah Shook also placed 1st with their duo. Noah Shook was 3rd place in Individual Sweepstakes.

On the Sunday portion of the tournament, Steve Johnston placed 1st in Impromptu speaking, 1st in After diner speaking, 3rd in Communications analysis and 5th in extemporaneous speaking.

Jeriah Forbes was 3rd place in Communications analysis and 4th in day two individual sweepstakes.
Molly Suter was 4th in Program of Oral interpretation, 5th in Individual Sweepstakes for day two and 2nd place in individual sweeps overall. John Mikolajcik was 5th in Impromptu..

The debate and forensics team will be traveling again next weekend to University of Central Missouri for "Missouri Mule Swing" tournament.
