Passionately Pink for the Cure is an awareness and fundraising program that begins on Oct. 1 of each year nationwide.
Salina Downtown Inc. felt it was a great way for community members in Salina to show their support and get involved.
Passionately Pink for the Cure will have everyone seeing pink everywhere
and all the time for the whole month of October.
"What a wonderful way to make a big impact," said longtime resident Pam Barker.
One event that has already taken place is National Denim Day which was on Oct. 5.
It is one of the single largest fundraisers
for breast cancer, and over 50 Lee District employees participated.
"We had very successful turn out for the Salina community," said SDI President Tony Dong. Dong, who also owns Martinelli's Little Italy, noted that a significant amount of people who normally wear jeans to lunch, were wearing denim that day.
All proceeds from this event benefited national early detection and treatment research.
On Oct. 6, Tammy Walker Cancer Center launched their fundraisers for the month.
This includes merchants having available "tree of life" cards for a $10 donation, as well as pink merchandise with a portion being donated to the center.
For individuals who would like to donate for a smaller amount, a penny is all it takes to cast your vote on your favorite downtown window display.
On Oct. 20, individuals can slip into their favorite denim jeans one more time for "Denim, Diamonds, and You" and head on over to Tammy Walker Cancer Center Lobby. All ticket holders will have the opportunity
to win a half-carat diamond donated by Vernon jewelers.
Prize packages, appetizers and live entertainment will be a part of the evening venue all for $50. Tickets are available at the Lee District Office at 205 W. Ash St. in Salina.
