Proverbs 21:23-"Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

"Open mouth, insert foot… chew vigorously. Have you ever wished that you could take back your own words? We have all been in that positionat some point in time. That is why the Bible tells us to keep, or to guard our mouth. This Proverb tells us that guarding what we say keeps our own souls from trouble. By not thinking before you speak, you may have said something you didn't mean or for it to sound "that way." Still, the thing you said just eats you up or makes you feel guilty inside until you just can't stand it any more.

Guarding your mouth is not a speech issue, it is a HEART issue. In Matthew 15:18-19, it says "But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies;" Any wicked speech comes out of the mouth because it is in the heart.
God desires for us to have a heart focused on Him, therefore, we must guard against lies, gossip, rumors and ill speech. Our hearts and our conversations with friends, family or anyone else for that matter,
should be pure before God.
