The cliché "I was made for this job" has often been misused and is usually questionable to some degree; however, in Randi Clifford's case, the saying could not be more on point.

Clifford is the superintendent for the Salina Parks and Recreation department.

Along with three other superintendents,
Clifford oversees and supervises
a program with nine different divisions.

When asked about his job, Clifford
says, "My job has so many benefits
including being different every day and getting to work with people every day."
Although his job is administrative
in nature, Clifford works with all the supervisors in a very hands-on type of environment, which has been his ideal job for as long as he could remember.
Clifford grew up in Illinois and lived in several different states before landing in Kansas for high school. After high school, he attended Phillips University in Oklahoma, a small university that Clifford said, "had a great atmosphere that just felt right" and compared it to the environment at Kansas Wesleyan.

The quality of the recreation program at Phillips University helped to solidify Clifford's decision on a major, which had previously been between Recreation or Physical Education.

He ran the Recreation program at the university for 3 years and also had an internship at a local YMCA, which he felt served as a good experience.

Clifford's first job out of college landed him the head position of a new, very small recreation program that soon proved to be a one-man operation.

Clifford did everything from organize
children leagues, to senior citizen
events and everything in between.
His next job transferred him to a slightly larger recreation department in which he was in charge of a small staff, but the job still was largely hands on in almost all aspects.

Clifford remembers this particular job as being a great opportunity in his career.
Clifford is now at the Salina Parks and Recreation department and has been for the last 18 years.

When asked what he felt the best part about his line of work was he replied, "It's so rewarding to be involved
and to see an end product that helps the community."

Clifford lives with his wife of 27 years and has 3 sons, all of whom are currently in college.
