Proverbs 15:18-"A wrathful man stirreth
up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife."
"I can't believe I got a D on this test! The teacher doesn't know what she's doing!" "Hey moron, watch where you're going!" "I'm so angry at him; I could just scream!" We have all been in situations like these that have left us angry at something or someone.
Getting angry is an everyday temptation that we are all faced with. When we are faced with anger, the natural human nature is to lash out by yelling, using a bad choice of words, or even talk badly about someone, but God doesn't want us to react that way.
God tells us in Proverbs 15:18 that being slow to anger, appeases strife. Appeasing strife means to remain calm or peaceful when faced with a conflict or fight.
How does one stay calm during conflict? If we put our focus on God; think about the situation before reacting; and pray about the situation before speaking: we can all stay calm during a conflict. God wants us to cast all of our cares, whether good or bad, on Him (1 Peter 5:7).
You may be asking what is the point of staying calm during conflict? Well, the result is this. Peace and Happiness. In Proverbs 15:23 the Bible tells us that "A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth." Our hearts can be at rest just by remaining calm during conflict.
Not only does it give us peace and happiness, but it has the same effect on others around us.
So, the next time we are faced with conflicts, let's stop and think about things and pray about them first. This will help us to be slow to anger, and it will bring about peace and happiness.
