With fall sports almost over, intramurals
are off and running at Kansas Wesleyan, and the Student Life Office has several activities that are starting to get a lot of attention.
Director of student life and activities Bridget Weiser said, "This year's participation
is higher than previous years."
Flag football is the major activity that is going on right now. The league is comprised mainly of teams from Kansas Wesleyan, and several teams from K-State Salina.
Sophomore Kendrick Mitchell from Humble, Texas, whose team is 4-1, states, "It gets real competitive out there; some people take it real serious."
The games are usually held from 7 p.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday.
Weiser would like for students to show more sportsmanship, but still have fun.
Although there is a lot of competition one team is still undefeated. A big draw this year is the weekly NFL pool that goes on.
Students flock each week to the student life office or the student center to put their ticket in.
Weiser is very excited about the turnout for the pool.
Native Californian and senior Larry Harry states, "I feel like I'm in Vegas."
Volleyball will be the next big event for student life that will begin at the end of October. Weiser believes that volleyball will have a pretty good turnout.
She also expects it to be very competitive. Weiser would also like students to be on the lookout for smaller student life events that are taking place.
In the spring, intramural basketball
will be the main focus as well as softball.
Weiser states, "During the spring there [are] usually more people because
fall sports are out so they put teams together and join the leagues.
She expects all competitors to show good sportsmanship during any event. With intramural sports around you can enjoy a good time and get vital exercise."
