For the first time in 4 years, the Philharmonic Choir will perform in the annual Christmas by Candlight services without recently and tragically deceased member Kandy Ann White.

A memorial service for Kansas Wesleyan choir student Kandy White was conducted on Monday at University United Methodist Church.

The memorial service began with Prof. John Burchill leading a procession of faculty while playing his bagpipe. As Burchill played, Dr. Dave Kraemer, Dr. Phil Meckley
and others followed from the front door of Pioneer Hall to the front of the sanctuary at the church.

"It was a very heart felt service,"
said choir member Reyes Olmo. "Choir gave our big diverse group a chance to find something in common and it is so sad to lose one of our own," said Brandy Moon, another choir member.

Many people from the campus community attended, including those of the Philharmonic Choir and baseball team.

"The memorial service for Kandy
was very well put together and I think they celebrated her life well in the service," said Eva Gadberry, a friend of White's.
Dr. John Blackwell and Dr. Phil Kerstetter advised the campus community in its loss. Blackwell included a story of a flour fight to illustrate, as he described, how White's love spread to everyone with whom she came into contact.

At the request of White's family, senior Lindsay Kraisinger performed "Born to Fly" by Sara Evans. "Born to Fly" was White's favorite song.

White was killed on Thanksgiving morning in a fire that burned down her house. White's grandmother passed away the same day.
