In this semester's first installment of the Scoop with Coop music column, I will be getting the K-Dub student body ready for the soon approaching Grammy Awards. February 10, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. CBS will be airing the 50th anniversary for the annual Grammy Awards ceremony. Not all awards will be shown but you could always check Grammy.com for all award winners. In this article I will review most of the more popular awards and a few nominated artists. Below you find your category of music, the awards and the artists nominated in each.
Pop:
In the world of pop there's plenty to talk about. Fergie had a great year with her freshman release of "The Dutchess" doing splendidly. She was also the first artist to have four songs from the same album sale over a 1 million ringtones. Justine Timberlake used his music success to get him into movie roles such as Alpha Dog and Shrek 3. Amy Winehouse,
whom had a successful start to her year, now is in the center of attention do to her downward spiral over drugs.
Rap:
With all of the news swirling around hip hop these days, I have no clue on where to start. Kanye had a rough year with dealing with the loss of his mother but the rapper/producer/so many other things still managed to have one of the most successful albums put out last year. The multimillionaire
50 Cent also found album sale success. But aside from music the rapper has also made quite a bit of dinero from his part ownership over vitamin water. Rapper T.I., born Clifford Harris, is still on house-arrest, pending a trial on charges of machine-gun possession.
Country:
American idol winner Carrie Underwood has reached fame and success at an unbelievable rate. Her first album is six times platinum and her latest project has just certified for double platinum. She has made history as Billboard's top country album-seller for three years straight.
Best New Artist:
Feist
Ledisi
