The annual tournament, hosted by Webster University, is called "Gorlock Gala" after the school's 'mythical' mascot. The event is one of the most intense tournaments on the circuit in which KWU competes. Schools from all over the nation attend
the tournament because of the intense competition.
In attendance included Western Kentucky, Notre Dame, University of Central Missouri, Purdue University, McKendree University, William Jewell College, Drury University, Ohio State University, Truman State University and the University of Alabama just to name a few.
There were 31 schools represented overall.
Steve Johnston and Noah Shook advanced to quarter finals in open (varsity) parliamentary debate.
Adriene Similton received first in an interpretative event consisting of compiled literature of poetry, prose and/or drama around a centralized theme.
Similton also teamed up with PKD president Eric Arganbright for Duo Impromptu. This event is similar to that of the high school event IDA where the a team of two must act out an improvised scene with set characters.
Arganbright and Similton placed first in the event.
Also placing in Duo Impromptu was Jeriah Forbes and John Mikolajcik, who placed third.
Forbes also broke into finals with his informative speech and received fi place. Johnston also broke into finals with his After diner speech and received first place.
Newcomer to the squad this semester, Audrey Riedl, placed fourth with team president Arganbright in Duo Interpretation.
Other members of the squad that competed at the Gorlock Gala to contribute towards sweepstakes include Michael Tate, Josh Watson-Drennen, Steve Sommersville, Molly Suter and Danielle Wieden.
The squad plans next to attend OU's "Sweetheart Swing."
