The storm created power outages and dangerous road conditions.
Originally, Kansas Wesleyan University had planned on the 13th as being the last day of the fall semester, but due to cancellation of school on Tuesday, they extended the semester until the 14th.
This change did not seem to burden the students very much.
Senior Danielle Johanson of Santa Clarita, Calif. said, "My flight was on Friday so luckily my professor gave us the option of taking the final on Thursday. I do know several people that had to reschedule their flights."
For some students living in Salina, leaving wasn't an option and they had to endure the effects of the ice storm.
"We were without power for seven days, but fortunately we had a generator so it wasn't that bad. We even threw our annual Christmas party!" said senior nursing student Monica Hydewald.
The impact the storm had on KWU students is insignificant compared to local high school students who now have to attend class earlier and have a shorter lunch break for the remainder of the year.
As far as the community is concerned, branches can be seen curbside in heaps all over Salina.
Currently, the city has no deadline to complete clean up, but anticipates being done sometime this spring, said Cathy Boll, Administrative Assistant III for the City of Salina.
Those who choose to get rid of the limbs on their own may do so dumping them on the concrete apron adjacent to Markley road.
Ron and Janet Denault, of Salina, made their limb dumping worthwhile by finding limbs that could be used for firewood.
"We dropped off the junk stuff" said Ron. Unfortunately, the whole community has been impacted in various ways, and should expect to deal with the ramifications of this storm for some time.
