KWU to host Border Wars with John Brown

Friday, Feb. 1 and Sat., Feb. 2, Kansas Wesleyan is hosting the Border Wars tournament, with John Brown University hosting an additional tournament Sunday.
The debate and forensic team will host a tournament that is expected to field 15 teams from numerous states.
One a junior team member states, "I am excited for the weekend to come."
Although Kansas Wesleyan students will not be able to compete in the tournament until Sunday she is still eager to match her wits against other students.
The tournament will consist of three days of competition. The first day will consist of a parliamentary debate that starts at 8:30 a.m. There will be an open class and a novice class, with six qualifying rounds.
Then they will advance to quarter-finals then semi-finals, finally ending in a final round. The competition is scheduled to end at 11 p.m.
Saturday's competition will start at 8 a.m., and will consist of the individual
forensics events.
Events include poetry interpretation,
extemporaneous speaking and duet acting to name a few.
There will also be an event unique to Kansas Wesleyan known as the Fortune Cookie.
The event is where competitors each get a fortune cookie, once opened they will have to speak for a designated amount of time about that fortune.
Sunday's competition will consist of individual parliamentary debate. The tournament is under the direction of Gary Harmon.
He was so busy constructing the event he was unavailable for comment.
The junior squad-member added, "Debate and forensics is unlike any other type of sport. It is an all-day event that starts at 6 a.m. until the last competition at 11 p.m. It is mentally and physically exhausting to its competitors."
