Patriots, Giants to meet in Superbowl

Issue date: 2/1/08 Section: Sports
Since the first Super Bowl in 1967,
the championship game has grown
to world popularity with the 42nd
annual Super Bowl to be played on
Sunday, Feb. 3. The Patriots this season nearly completed an unprecedented 19-0
undefeated season. The only other
undefeated regular season that has
been accomplished was a run of 14-0
other by coach Don Shula's Miami
Dolphins in 1972. That team went
17-0.
The Giants, on the other hand,
narrowly made the playoffs at 10-6.
With two power offenses going at it,
the game is going to be high scoring.
The Giants is something to brag
about as well with Osi Umenyiora
recording 13 sacks this season on
the defensive line and the secondary
having the fourth ranked pass defense
in the league.
Both teams feature very talented receivers in Plaxico Burress for the Giants with 1,025 yards and 12 touchdowns and Randy Moss for
the Patriots with 1,493 yards and 23
touchdowns. With the Giants having
a big bruiser running back in Brandon
Jacobs, who is 6'4" 250 pound and
fast, the running game will be big for
New York.
The Patriots passing game is pretty
much unstoppable with Tom Brady
having a career and pro bowl year
being the NFL's most valuable
player and will give the Giants
very much trouble.
Sophomore Joel Medina said,
"Judging by the last game they
played, which was high scoring,
this game will be just as exciting."
