With an early lead, Wesleyan held the momentum in the ballgame.
Up 12 points five minutes into the contest it appeared that the Coyotes were on their way to a victory and sole possesion of first place in the KCAC.
Ottawa, however, had other plans, going on a 14-2 run tying the game up with 10 minutes left in the half.
Our Coyotes went on a 5-0 run of their own and with under six minutes to play in the half, the momentum was once more theirs.
This quickly shifted, however, with the Braves running up the score, going on a 12-0 run of their own. Wesleyan guard Tony Boone scored before halftime, and the Braves took a 39-34 lead to the locker-room.
The second half proved fatal for the Coyotes, as they would never hold the lead again. Ottawa scored 8 unanswered points, pushing the lead to 47-37 with 16 minutes remaining. Wesleyan battled back with a 10-4 run of their own capped off by key baskets from Milen Brown and Willie McCarty.
With 14 minutes to go in the game, and a 51-47 score, the Coyotes were right back in it.
Ottawa, however, quickly disposed of any chance of a comeback by scoring 12 unanswered points.
The Coyotes would go down by as many as 18 points before the buzzer sounded ending the game with a final score of 86-72.
Mychal Henderson was the lead Wesleyan scorer, putting up 24 points along with 4 rebounds. Other key contributors were Trey Sims and Romero Hood who each had 11 points, and Milen Brown who had 10 points.
The Coyotes will continue KCAC play this week with 2 home games Southwestern February 2nd and McPherson February 7th.
Wesleyan is still tied atop the KCAC conference with a 7-3 record,9-10 overall.
