The service Sunday at Trinity United Methodist church was about temptation and Jesus's experience in the desert.
Senior Pastor Barry Dundas spoke to hearts saying, "For Jesus, the power was entrusting God, that God had a better way, a better future." He went on to say that if you are to live your life for Jesus, then you need to redefine your own understanding of Power.
"Do we trust ourselves, or things, or God?" Dundas said, "The goal of worship is an experience, as we begin the season of lent that we have self- reflection."
The greater United Methodist church has adopted the phrase, "Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors, and they take that phrase seriously being intentionally inclusive and welcoming. Dundas has invited anyone to take part in communion during lent from 7:30 am to 5:30 p.m. daily. "You don't have to be a member here, but say, I am willing to walk this journey." Dundas believes the most important concept for churches is that they are authentic. Christians are not always honest, perfect, and don't always get it, he said, and he hopes to convey to everyone that attending church there is "not only a genuine, but relevant experience."
Outreach programs they are involved with include, prisoner angel tree, K-Mart Christmas shopping for children, Trinity Outfitters, Salina Rescue Mission, Blood Drives, Habit for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Collecting used eye glasses, and the Emergency Food Bank.
Trinity has abourt 700 members, with 350 at worship. Services are at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, with Sunday school beginning at 9:45 a.m..
The church is at 901 E. Neil Ave.
