Recently, the dancing has not been done by only the members of the team.
All the dancers selected a male Kansas Wesleyan student as a partner for the Valentine's Day couples dance. The dancers worked for two weeks coordinating a dance to "I got it from my momma" by Will.i.am.
"It was really fun. A lot of guys put their own movements in it," dance team member Dana Stadel said.
Each couple made its own shirts so that the lady and the gentleman would match each other. For example, one couple's shirt read "Peanut Butter" and "Jelly." Stadel and her partner's read "Brad and Angelina."
With their last dance performance taking place last night, to the song "Fuego," the ladies are looking forward to getting everything ready for tryouts.
The dancers this year put lots of time and effort into their dances while dealing with odd practice hours.
"During football season, the hours were more regular," Stadel said, "but baskeball season's been odd." The ladies have had to learn dances more quickly, practicing Sunday nights and Monday with other random practices so that all of the women could make it. Stadel added, "(Coach Jenny King has) been really good about (arranging times) so that everyone can make up practices."
The dance team keeps next year in mind. Stadel recommends that students looking to try out for the dance team keep an open mind and just do their best, as well as keeping a positive attitude. Details on tryouts will be forthcoming.
