Due to the inclement weather Kansas has been suffering this past month, Coach Brent Mooney moved his players to an indoor facility in order for his team to get practice time. Now that the weather is improving, the team is back outdoors preparing itself for the upcoming season.
Mooney says he's looking forward to the season and hopes to finish near the top of the KCAC conference. "I think we will be competitive with every school in the conference," said Mooney. "We're going to be a lot better than Kansas Wesleyan has been in the past few years."
The team has grown to as many as sixteen, an additional six have joined since Spring. Mooney hopes this will increase competition amongst the team. "With more players, [it] will create a more competitive atmosphere," said Mooney.
The team's first scheduled meet was March 6 at Hutchinson Community College; however, there were not enough players to participate, so the meet became a scrimmage. In women's play, juniors Brittney Parke and Amanda Fertig won in doubles competition; Parke also won in singles action. In men's action, freshman Josh Tackett and sophomore Matt Hodges won in singles competition. The team's first home tournament will be held on March 10, followed by a trip to Wichita on March 15.
