the first time in school history, members of the Advance newspaper staff were in attendance at this year's annual meeting of the Kansas Associated Collegiate Press Conference.

Nearly 25 schools from around the state gathered in Old Town in Wichita for this year's conference which was held April 6 -7.

The KACP recognizes and rewards schools from around the state in many different categories that varied from newspaper, magazine, yearbook and online production.
The contest was divided into three divisions, one for two-year schools, one for private schools and one for four-year schools.

Awards were given for each of these divisions.

In addition to the awards ceremony, many of the newspapers at the conference were critiqued by a faculty member from another school. The Advance newspaper was critiqued
by Dr. Bruce Clary of McPherson College.

Clary has taught journalism and editing at the college level for nearly 20 years.

Drawing on his experience, he was able to give the Advance staff a lot of expert advice.

"It was fun, I learned a lot," said Molly Suter. "He gave us some ideas on what to fix in our paper."

Wesleyan, although not entered to win any awards this year, still took a lot out of the experience.

"It was cool seeing how other school newspapers work," said Dan Arnold. "Hopefully, we can incorporate
some of the ideas we learned into our paper."

The staff also enjoyed trips to the Wichita Eagle where they learned about online publishing and got a special treat with a visit to KAKE Channel 10 in Wichita for a station tour.

Dr. Jack Morris led the contingent that consisted of three other staff members.
