The faculty show is a great opportunity for students to get a look at artwork created by their instructors. "There is a nice combination of realistic work, abstraction, and non-representational pieces in a variety of media. Three distinct voices are present in the exhibition giving the viewers plenty to see," said Brad Anderson, Department of Art chair and one of the exhibitors. Having the faculty display their artwork is an important part of instruction according to Anderson.
This is the last show of its kind for Bill Hottman, adjunct Professor of painting, drawing and design. After spending seven years in the Kansas Wesleyan art department, Hottman retired last semester. His works combine drawing, painting and a variety of other mixed media.
Replacing Hottman this semester as an adjunct painting instructor is Lori Wright. Wright's work in the faculty show is a variety of mixed media. The theme of her work is life, identity and connection. "I create narratives from those themes which any viewer should be able to relate to or interact with," commented Wright.
All three artists were on hand Tuesday for a gallery talk. This informal gathering over the noon hour in the gallery allowed the artists to speak about their works and for the viewers to ask questions.
The show will be up until April 20. It will be followed by the final show of the year. This show will feature the works of seniors Kay Hakoda, Ashley Trinadad, and Destiny Powers along with the annual juried student art show.
