Two groups of Kansas Wesleyan University students joined forces with others in the community to benefit children at Ashby House, a local family shelter.

The groups came together to decorate, furnish, and stock a children's room at the Ashby House facility at 153 S. Eighth. Much of the work took place on March 29.

According to Amber Bohl, Kansas Wesleyan's Teacher Education students have been collecting children's books and toys, and have hundreds of items for the Ashby House room. Bohl, Phillipsburg, is resident of the Kansas National Education Association-Student Program (KNEA-SP) chapter at Kansas Wesleyan. Additionally, the group secured a grant from the Kansas National Education Association to purchase furniture for the room, Bohl said.

The Art Club at Kansas Wesleyan contributed to the project by painting a mural in the children's room. They spent one day drawing the mural and another day and a half painting it.

While the Kansas Wesleyan Art Club members were painting the mural, the KWU Teacher Education students did activities with the Ashby House children.
