Trees disappear across campus

All across campus, trees have been disappearing.
There have been several questions concerning the environmental integrity of our university.
Student Haley Brown gave her thoughts on the trees. "I think it may be necessary, but it is sad to see part of KWU's history go."
During the ice storm the trees were practically destroyed, branches falling on cars and power lines all over the area. Some of the trees were killed by the storm; their dead carcasses still covered campus.
Once trees are dead, their limbs become more brittle and thus are more likely to cause damage to individuals and property.
The "Trees are Good" organization published several lists to indicate when trees have become hazardous on their website, www.treesaregood.com.
Some of the criteria included, "Large dead branches in the tree, cracks and splits in the trunk where branches are attached, and branches falling from the tree."
President Kerstetter confirms this by stating, "The trees were cut down because
they were at the end of their useful lifetime and were considerably
dangerous, that's why we closed down during the ice storm."
There is some talk on a new landscaping
project. Dr. Kerstetter stated he couldn't give out any information because it is "very much in the discussion phase.'' It does show that KWU does have the environment in mind.
